Only 15 minutes from our house in Baiona, towards the town of A Guarda, you will find the lovely monastery of Santa Maria de Oia, belonging to the Cistercian Order. It has Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque elements, resulting from the different transformations and modifications carried out from the 12th Century until the latest 18th. Due to its strategic location, right beside to the sea, it played an important role in defending the coast from the Turkish Fleet attack occurred in 1624.
