Located in the northeast of Burgos, La Bureba was one of the first regions to acquire its own personality in Castilian County. The line of rocky castles, including Frías, Poza de la Sal or Pancorbo, gave refuge to the Christian and enabled repopulation for the Spanish Reconquista.

Among its rich architectural heritage should be noted a number of Romanesque churches of outstanding significance. Very near Burgos city you´ll find the Rodilla Monastery and the shrine of Nuestra Señora del Valle, a beautiful Romanesque chapel built in the twelfth Century. Another unique construction is the chapel of San Facundo, with the apse and the belfry remaining standing.
